The Humble Beginning.
While yoga has existed for thousands of years, our story started 35 years ago — as a voluntary, non-profit group in Dubai with a handful of patrons who wished to spread its benefits.
A few followers, one pure thought.
With inspiration and blessings from Guru Late Shri K. B. Rao — a martial art exponent of Kalaripayattu and avid yoga practitioner — Friends of Yoga started with a few followers in Karama Park, Dubai.
A health revolution begins.
Under the visionary leadership of Shri K. B. Madhavan (Guruji) and its founding members, Friends of Yoga sparked a global health revolution. His dedication transformed FOY into a respected, internationally recognized organization that welcomes everyone without boundaries, teaching the essentials of yoga to ensure all practitioners achieve maximum well-being.
89 branches, 30 countries, 2,500+ practitioners.
From a humble beginning in the UAE, Friends of Yoga now spans 89 branches across 30 countries with over 2,500 active practitioners. Countless individuals continue to benefit from free daily classes led by qualified, committed teachers who have transformed their own fitness, self-confidence, and skills through service.
What we stand for, every single day.
At Friends of Yoga, we believe wellness is a universal right, not a luxury. Every single day, we stand for breaking down barriers by providing free, accessible daily classes to everyone, regardless of background or experience. Through mindful movement and selfless service, we are committed to cultivating inner peace, nurturing collective health, and building a global family where we can all heal and grow together.
Committed to yoga and health
FOY's activities are strongly embedded in the philosophy of holistic health — encouraging members to stay focused, positive, self-disciplined and connected; to respect local laws and culture; and to commit to continuous learning and improvement.
Celebrating the moments
FOY is very active in celebrating festivals and days of national, historical and cultural importance, alongside special occasions, group picnics and trips that foster togetherness, oneness and happiness among members.
Volunteering for the community
Members organise seminars and blood donation drives, take part in community and charity events, promote naturopathy, guide aspirants toward naturopathy careers, arrange transport to yoga locations, provide mats, and care for the elderly and the sick.
Collaborating for growth
FOY collaborates with government bodies, international organisations, naturopathy centres, corporates, Toastmasters and NGOs to advance personal and professional growth, good health, and the benefits of yoga across communities.
